Identify Allergies in Dog - Just like its owner, dog may have allergies. Some allergies are minor inconveniences, while others can cause serious problems for your pet if left untreated. Even if the dog is not able to communicate their problems, there are telltale signs that you know that your furry friend have allergic reactions. Read on to learn how to identify allergies in dogs.


How to Identify Allergies in Dog


Look for excessive scratching. If your dog is being treated for ticks, fleas and other fur-related problems but is still scratching excessively, he may have allergy to something he is eating, wearing or sleeping on. In fact, he may be allergic to flea medication. If you cannot identify reason for scratching, such as his collar is troublesome, then you may need to consult doctor.


Examine your dog's skin. Use hairbrush to part your dog's fur and examine her skin. Look for bumps, bites, redness or raw areas. Also, you might want to consider bathing your dog once week or even once every other week depending on breed as excessive washing can dry out skin.


Work with your vet to solve problem. Once you have identified symptoms, contact your veterinary technician. Make list of things that your pet has eaten and worn as well as any odd behavior. This will help your vet determine how to treat your dog.
